  • Douglas S. Baum, L.C.S.W. / Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Douglas S. Baum, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is a therapist with over twenty-five years of experience. His practice includes individual and couples therapy of adults and individual therapy of adolescents.

He believes strongly in treating the person, not the diagnosis. While he specializes in treating those suffering with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD and borderline personality disorder, he is equally proud of the success he’s had in helping those with family concerns, relationship problems and end-of-life issues.

Doug is Co-Chair of the Morris Unit of the New Jersey chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, the largest professional organization of its kind in the state.

In 2010, he was named the national Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Professional Advisor of the year. He currently serves as Professional Advisor to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance – Succasunna, a self-help support group whose goal is to provide support and education to people living with depression and bipolar disorder, as well as their families and friends. In his dual role as senior associate of the Morris Psychological Group and Advisor to DBSA – Succasunna, Doug has spearheaded their participation in National Depression Screening Day for the past several years.

He has lectured to both professional and public groups on a variety of topics including: personality disorders, anxiety and panic, making successful behavioral changes, and the stigma of mental illness. He has led groups for patients dealing with Borderline Personality Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

In addition to working with clients, Doug has also provided clinical supervision to clinical social work interns as a NJ clinical social work supervisor, and has worked with physicians, helping them understand how their patient’s mental health affects their physical well-being.

He was formerly a staff psychotherapist at both UMDNJ in Newark, New Jersey and St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, New Jersey.

Doug is a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work with specialized training in: Short Term Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Treating Personality Disorders, Clinical Hypnosis and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He is a member of the NASW-NJ Speakers Bureau.

Doug is a member of The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), is recognized by the Academy of Certified Social Workers and is a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. He earned his Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from New York University after receiving his B.A. from Ithaca College.
